You know you’re interested in using CBD products, but what type of product is right for you? Currently on the market, there are broad-spectrum CBD products and there are pure CBD isolate products. Broad spectrum products are made of several types of cannabinoids and terpenes. Although they are full-spectrum, they still test at around zero THC, based on the manufacturer’s lab testing.

In addition to CBD, cannabis contains over 100 active cannabinoids. It also contains terpenes, which have anti-inflammatory properties, and are thought to increase the efficacy of cannabinoids. The cannabinoids CBN and CBG for example, are found in many broad spectrum extracts and studies have shown that both contain anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, and pain relieving properties. Broad spectrum products often go through processing to isolate, then remove as much THC as possible, while still keeping the other cannabinoids and terpenes in tact. Other times, they are isolate-based with additional terpenes and cannabinoids added in later.

Isolate CBD oils, on the other hand, will generally be sold as  99+% pure CBD without any additional cannabinoids. Also available are pre-made isolate oils that typically consist of a carrier oil, such as MCT oil, infused with the crystalline isolate CBD powder. Many users are attracted to the idea of the pure CBD, without a risk of consuming any THC or other “unnecessary” components of the plant.

So, you might be wondering which is the better option: broad spectrum products or Isolates? The answer depends a lot on the individual.  Currently, broad spectrum CBD products are more popular since research suggests that other cannabinoids present in broad spectrum products, including trace amounts of THC, are necessary to let the plants full range of benefits be achieved. Ultimately, though, it comes down to the individual user’s needs. Since broad-spectrum products might contain trace amounts of THC, if drug testing is a concern, CBD isolate products might be a better option for you.
